It’s good to check in with others, to see what they are thinking about us. If we don’t do this, then we can become isolated and out of touch.

IN BUSINESS

Businesses can become isolated and out of touch if they forget to check in with customers and see what they are thinking and feeling. In order to stay profitable, a business has to be confident that customers will come back for more.  And we can only be sure of this if we encourage customer reactions, and ask for honest feedback.

IN OUR PERSONAL LIVES

In our personal relationships, too, we can get out of touch with our friends. Just as in business, we can keep the channels of communication open, and ask for honest feedback.

ASKING QUESTIONS

If we can get over any fear of rejection, we can dare to ask our friends and customers:

  • How do you feel about me/us right now?
  • What are your intentions regarding me/us?
  • What have you liked about me/us?
  • What have you disliked? What can I/we do to give you a better experience?

The aim is not to grovel, or become a doormat. It is to keep in touch with others’ experience of us, and hopefully to make it more likely that we can serve others in a way which is productive and helpful.
