Therapy

developing you

How I work with you

I am friendly and accessible, and will help you feel comfortable and safe. Where you want to develop yourself, I’ll challenge you. I’ll explore your world with you, and your future happiness is my number one priority.

I specialise in anxiety and depression, but also work with diverse conditions, including ADHD and the autistic spectrum. Whatever your situation, I will work with you on your quality of life and mental health.

I work in a person-centred way, prioritising your natural ability to grow and develop. I am also trained in CBT and psychodynamic work, and use these methodologies as appropriate.

In-person therapy

Some clients prefer to see me face-to-face. Usually they come to my counselling room in Guildford which is at my home. The room is quiet and comfortable.

I am also sometimes able to visit a client’s home; this can be discussed when we arrange sessions.

Phone therapy

Phone therapy is the most popular. Whether you want to be at home, out walking, or somewhere else, we can speak in confidence.

This works extremely well. It became very popular during the pandemic. It enables me to offer sessions to you wherever you live.

Walking therapy

Walking therapy is great for those who prefer to be outside. We choose where we meet. On rainy days, we can meet in a quiet coffee shop.

Some like the fact that, when walking, we both face ahead, making it potentially more relaxed.

What you can expect

Initial phone call

Usually, we arrange a phone call of about 20 minutes. We discuss why you got in touch, and how I might help. We can then arrange a first session to see how we go.

Free first session

Our first session is partly an assessment, but it’s also a chance for you to experience how a typical session feels. If we are both happy to continue, we arrange further sessions.

Ongoing flexible support

Some clients have six sessions, some come for years, and the average is about 25 sessions. Most come weekly, but fortnightly or monthly is also OK. It’s all negotiable, depending on need.

Outcomes

Almost always, clients improve over time. As the client wishes, session frequency can then be reduced until the client is comfortable to do without. Thereafter, clients are always welcome back as required.
